Fall is around the corner – we’re all looking forward to cooler weather and changing leaves (maybe). But it also marks the time when a significant piece of the Affordable Care Act goes into effect. The Health Insurance Marketplaces are scheduled to open October 1, 2013.
Each state will have a Marketplace that is designed to allow patients who need health insurance to compare health coverage options and select a plan. If you’re like 411 Pediatrics patient mom, Jenna Holmes, you likely still have unanswered questions about how the Marketplace will work and what it will mean for your family.

What can families do now to prepare for the Marketplace?
If you have health insurance, this may be a good time to review your current plan.
Make a list of questions and learn about different types of health insurance coverage.
Gather information about your family’s income and set a budget.
Beginning October 1, 2013, check the Marketplace to look at available private insurance options. The Marketplace should also be able to tell you if you qualify for financial assistance or state health programs.
For more information and FAQs about the Marketplace, visit www.healthcare.gov or www.healthychildren.org/ACAmarketplace.
We’ll keep you posted as we find out more information. Stay tuned.
