Austin Pediatrician – Ava Gallagher, MD, FAAP
After growing up in Brownsville, Texas, she attended Rice University, graduating with a Bachelors of Arts in Political Science. She received her medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at San Antonio. She completed her pediatric residency at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. After residency, she entered academic medicine as an Assistant Professor at UTMB in Galveston. Dr. Gallagher worked in the newborn and special care nursery, and at after hours UTMB Pediatric Urgent Care clinics.
During this time, she enjoyed teaching residents and medical students and raising her daughter Evie. Dr. Gallagher then moved to San Diego, California, where her husband completed a fellowship in orthopedics. She worked at Neighborhood Healthcare in Escondido, CA, a non-profit, primary care clinic for underserved patients. After a year in San Diego, Dr. Gallagher moved to Austin in August 2012, where her husband began private practice in orthopedic surgery. She took time off to have their second child, Peter, and joined 411 Pediatrics in the summer of 2013.
Dr. Gallagher is Board Certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She is a member of the Texas Medical Association. Her professional interests include obesity prevention, breastfeeding and nutrition. Dr. Gallagher enjoys cooking, running, and spending time with her husband Sean and their children 4 year old Evie and 1 year old Peter. They all enjoy spending time exploring Austin with their pug Mya.
